A Week in the Life

March 19, 2018

Since life with three kids is crazy and busy, I thought now would be the perfect time to share what a typical week looks like for us. I always find these types of posts fascinating, don't you? I few weeks ago I shared a day in the life...and you can find that here

Monday morning is here before I know it. I pull my camera out to document our week but end up using my phone instead. Belle wakes up at 6:30, which means it's time to start the day. Hudson is in our bed (again) and hears me get up, so he's up too! I do our typical morning stuff: coffee, smoothie for the kids (my recipe here), feed Belle, breakfast etc. Sadie wakes up around 7:15 a.m.

I look forward to Monday mornings because I get some "me" time! My in-laws come over to watch the girls while I take Hudson to school. After I drop him off I head over to the Starbucks that is inside Target and work work work.

Then I swing through Target (duh) and stop by Toys R Us to look for the 35th anniversary My Little Ponies. And I find one! Score!

At 11:30 it's time to leave and pick Hudson up from school. As soon as I get home it's a rush to make sure everyone has had lunch (my in laws tried to feed Sadie but she wasn't having it). And then it's nap time at 12:30 for Sadie. After I get her down I clean up the kitchen and eat lunch myself. Then at 1:30 it's time for Belle's nap. Hudson usually watches the iPad or plays quietly while I put her to bed. After she's asleep we have a few minutes where both girls are sleeping and it is glorious! Usually I work during this time but Hudson asks me to cuddle on the couch and watch a movie....and I can't turn that down!

It's 2:30 and both girls are up from their naps. This is survival time. If the kids are up to it, we do some family cleaning. I bribe Hudson to vacuum a little for me and pay him 50 cents to "dust the lines" in our house, which means dust all the base boards. Thankfully he's down with this idea! I dust the living room, dining room, and master bedroom while he does this....and while his little sisters chase him. Then I count down the minutes until Jon is home.

At 4:00 I start making dinner. My kids start begging for food around this time so I've learned it's best just to give them dinner early. Otherwise they snack until dinner time, refuse to eat dinner, and then are hungry at bedtime. So they eat around 4:15-4:30 and then I usually eat then too! Then they can have after dinner. Tonight I make turkey burgers and a salad. Hudson asks for a "ketchup sandwich" which is exactly what it sounds like. Ketchup on bread. And that's it. Sadie eats a turkey burger and chomps on a tomato like it's an apple. Belle eats whatever I put in front of her.

Then Jon gets home, yay! He eats, then does the dishes for me. At 6:00 I take Belle upstairs for a bath and then put her to bed. At 7:00 we get the big two kids in the shower, then Jon takes Hudson and I take Sadie. I read her books, snuggle a bit, and then put her in bed. She's a champ. Then I go in and snuggle Hudson until he falls asleep. I'm a sucker.

By 8:00 everyone is asleep and I am FREE! Jon and I straighten up the house, I take a shower, and then go to bed early.

I'm up early for once, yes! I have about 20 minutes to myself to make coffee and check my to-do list. I've been adding collagen to my coffee every morning and I LOVE it. I think it is making my skin feel more smooth and helping me sleep more soundly. Or maybe it's all in my head. Either way, I'm doing it!

At 6:45 everyone starts waking up. I hate when they all wake up at one time. It's mass chaos.

I make green smoothies for everyone for breakfast. My kids drink them like champs every morning. Typically on Tuesdays Hudson has school and I take the girls to church with me for a mom's of littles group. But this week my group has an outing at a local kids gym instead!

I  arranged ahead of time for my mom to take care of Belle since she probably won't enjoy the outing and it's during her nap time. So I hustle in the morning to get the big kids and myself dressed, pump a bottle for Belle, and head and out the door. We take Hudson to school and then head on over to get some gas and then go to the kids gym.

Sadie LOVES it. And it's impossible to get a photo of her because she won't stay in one spot for more than 2 seconds.

At 11:30 playtime is over and we head on over to pick Hudson up from school.

Then it's lunch for everyone and more messes for me to clean up. I toss a load of laundry in the washer too. (I try and do one load per day...but that doesn't always happen).

At 12:30 Sadie goes down for her nap. At 1:00 I have groceries delivered. All the amens for that service! Because grocery shopping with three kids is on the list of my least favorite activities.

Before Belle's nap I have my mom snap this picture for an Instagram giveaway I am doing. I get all the camera settings just right and then hand it over to her. I get a lot of questions about who takes the photos of me for my blog/Instagram....and the answer is 95% of the time my mom! And 5% my husband.

At 1:30 Belle goes down for her nap. I have about 30 minutes before Sadie wakes up to work on blog stuff while Hudson colors.

By 2:30 everyone is up and in a great mood! They are playing together so nicely I decide to spend a little time organizing our pantry. On Tuesdays I try to through out any old food in the pantry and clean out the refrigerator in preparation for trash day on Wednesday. After I clean out the old stuff I quickly straighten up what's left and then wipe down the refrigerator as fast as possible.

At 3:30 the big kids beg to go outside and play. It's still pretty cold outside so I bundle them up and off they go.

Belle and I head to the office so we can watch them from the window....and I grab my laptop to get a little work done while they all play.

And before I know it it's dinner time and I'm rushing to pull something together. I decide on bbq chicken salads for Jon and I, and chicken nuggets and cucumbers for the kids. Jon is working a little late so we eat dinner without him. The big kids beg to have a picnic on the floor at dinner and since it's just me and I'm about to loose my mind, I say yes. They think it's the coolest thing ever. At some point I toss the laundry in the dryer. It's a miracle I remembered.

Jon gets home and eats dinner, then grabs Hudson to go practice some soccer skills while I put the girls in the bath. I can't remember if Jon gives Hudson a shower or not. But after bath I put Belle to bed and during that time I can hear Jon instructing the kids to clean up the toys...and then I hear him vacuum. He's a keeper.

Then it's bedtime for the big kids. At some point after putting kids to bed for over two hours I wonder how this became my life. Ha.

I am up at 5:30 to get some work done! I'm tired but it's worth it. Except Belle wakes up at 5:50. So there goes that.

On Wednesdays my mom takes Hudson to school for me and then takes Sadie to bible study with her. Sadie gets to play in the church nursery (her very favorite thing!), so it leaves me with just Belle. YES!

Belle goes down for her nap at 9:30.

I bust a move and work work work. And do a load of laundry while she sleeps.

Big kids get home around noon, we do lunch, then nap for Sadie at 12:30 and Belle at 1:30. My afternoons look mostly the same every day!

Then this picture sums up our afternoon. Madness. And playtime. And apparently no more photos the rest of the day.

I can't remember the evening....but it's always the same: dinner, play, bath time, then bed. It was a long day.

I try and wake up before the kids but it's just not happening today. Hudson is up first at about 6:45. Followed by Belle. Sadie sleeps until 7:30. The morning is a blur. Documenting your week is hard.
I pump a bottle for Belle with an audience. I'm getting my hair cute this morning so my mom is watching both of the girls while I am gone.

At 8:30 a.m I say goodbye and take Hudson to school, then it's off to the salon! My hair is in desperate need of a cut and I am in desperate need of some alone time. My cut includes a mini scalp massage and I'm in heaven.

After my haircut I swing by Costco to grab a few things we need and then Target. Again. But this time Target FINALLY has the five My Little Ponies I've been on the hunt for. For some reason I hesitate and only grab three of them.

Then I pick Hudson up from school and head to my in-laws house. Jon works from home on Thursdays and it's a battle to keep Hudson away from him, so they watch him for us in the afternoon.

I get home around 12:30 to find Jon is taking a break from work and is feeding both girls their lunch. I put Sadie down for her nap. Then put my Costco stuff away and eat lunch myself. Then at 1:30 it's time for Belle's nap and I have some more alone time! Jon is all over me about not buying all of the My Little Ponies (since I talked about them forever!) so I begin wishing I bought them all. I realize I forgot to get some baby oatmeal for a blog post so I decide to go back to Target after the girls wake up from their naps.

Once they are up we hit up Target and the girls are so well behaved, I think maybe they aren't my children. I only find one of the ponies.....and Sadie flips out over it and insists on opening it up right away (it's the first time she's seen them since I hid the ones I bought from her for Easter and her birthday).

Then we swing through the new Chick-fil-a drive through for dinner (yes!) and drive to my in-laws house to pick up Hudson. Then we head home.

No one complains about dinner (score!). Hudson has karate on Thursday nights so Jon and I rotate who takes him...and it's my turn. So he takes care of putting the girls to bed while I take off with Hudson.

I haven't seen him practice in a while so it's fun watching him. All of the kids in his class have karate uniforms (is that what they are called?) but Hudson has decided not to continue with Karate so we didn't get one. He's in a red shirt and blue shorts. He has his little yellow belt though, and he's pretty proud of himself.

After Karate we head home and Hudson goes straight to bed. Once he's asleep I do a little work and then take a shower and head to bed myself.

Fridays are LONG in our house! Hudson doesn't have school so I usually try and set up some sort of outing or playdate. But today I have nothing planned.

I have no idea what we did all morning. But by 9am my house looks like this.

The big kids pain with these dab and dot markers while Belle naps.

When Belle wakes up they all play together while I clean up the kitchen and make my to-do list for the following week. I also sneak in another load of laundry and wipe down the hall bathroom really quickly. Like at lightning speed.

Then it's lunch and naps for the girls. While they sleep Hudson and I straighten up the mud room, play go fish, and I watch him ride his bike in the driveway. And apparently don't take any photos.

Then, once the girls are up we play some more!

Looks like Belle and Hudson stayed in pjs all day. Sadie always insists on a "pretty dress", which is the only reason she is dressed.  Jon gets home around 4pm today (yay!) and take the big kids outside to play while I make dinner and tidy up around the house. Again.

At 6pm I head upstairs to give Belle a bath. She goes to bed easily for once! At 6:45 I give the big kids a shower in our master bathroom. While they shower I take advantage of that time and clean the bathroom. I love listening to them while I clean!

Then it's bedtime! I try to not work on Fridays so I can spend time with Jon and unwind.

So that's it! My typical week. I have another post planned to answer some of the questions I get asked frequently...if you have a question let me know and I'll be sure to answer!

Baby Breakfast Ideas

March 16, 2018

My older two kids are not big breakfast eaters. So it surprised me that Belle is ALL ABOUT breakfast. Girlfriend is hungry in the morning and wants to eat! My older two kids usually drink a green smoothie for breakfast and that's it.

Belle will drink a smoothie and then beg for more food. Girl can eat! So I thought I'd share some of our go-to breakfast meals for babies!

Belle LOVES oatmeal cereal. And I love that it's good for her. She also loves blueberries (diced). When she first started eating solid food at 6 months old, I would often blend the blueberries in the food processor and then use them to flavor the oatmeal. She loved it! But now she likes to feed herself, so I just chop them up and serve them to her.

Bananas are probably one of Belle's FAVORITE foods. Which is funny to me because she refused to eat them for so long. I just kept offering them at breakfast and finally she decided she loved them. So if your baby is the same way, just keep offering!

Belle loves a mix of diced strawberries and bananas with her oatmeal.

On occasion the big kids will ask for pancakes for breakfast. And Belle loves those days! I dice up some pancakes for her and make her own de-constructed version of avocado toast! Pancakes and avocado with a side of oatmeal. She loves it!

If we are in a hurry to get to school or church I'll often offer Belle some cereal puffs to eat in the car...but she totally prefers a hearty breakfast. Other breakfast favorites in our house are scrambled eggs and peanut butter toast. Due to allergy concerns, I typically wait to offer them to my babies until after they have turned one, which means Belle is going to get to try them this weekend.

If you are just starting out on solid foods, Gerber cereal is a great first food. Your baby is grown and changing so much, so their nutrition is very important! Gerber wants to make every bite count, which is why Gerber oatmeal has been the first food for all of my babies. It's a great way to incorporate iron in to their diet, which breastfed babies in particular really need! Two servings have 90% of the iron they need each day.

Gerber cereal has essential nutrients such as iron, zinc, calcium, vitamin C, E and six B vitamins for healthy development. I highly recommend mixing the oatmeal cereal with other baby purees too. Applesauce is a great starter!

This is our first time trying Gerber's DHA & Probiotic version of their oatmeal cereal. DHA helps support brain and eye development and the Probiotic helps support digestive health when eaten on a regular basis.

You can learn more about Gerber cereals here, and find them at your local Target! I've also found a great coupon for you to save even more here

Belle is ONE

March 15, 2018

I can't believe I'm writing this. My sweet girl is ONE.

Fastest and best year of my life. She is the missing piece to our family puzzle. She completes us. I can't imagine life without her.

She is light and happiness and joy. And belly laughs and slobber.

She will walk for birthday cookies. Only 3 steps so far.

We love you Deet Deet. Happy birthday sweet girl!
