Simple Strawberry Shortcake

May 30, 2017

 photo strawberry.jpg

This is an oldie, but a goodie. I could eat Strawberry Shortcake all day every day. We make this all the time and it is the easiest and yummiest strawberry shortcake ever.

 photo DSC_1907.jpg

Here's what you'll need:
4 Cups sliced strawberries
2 1/3 Cups bisquick mix
2/3 Cup milk
3 Tbs sugar
3 Tbs butter, melted
Cool Whip

 photo DSC_1912.jpg

Stir everything together except the strawberries.

 photo DSC_1916.jpg

Divide dough into 6 equal parts and place on a baking sheet.

Bake at 425 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

 photo DSC_1920.jpg

They come out of the oven looking perfectly imperfect. And delicious.

 photo DSC_1934.jpg

Slice in half and then stuff with strawberries and cool whip.

 photo DSC_1938.jpg

They are SO good. And so easy. That's a winner in my book! In fact, I might of just had one for breakfast. SOOOOO good.

Keeping Her Close

May 26, 2017

 photo IMG_8290.jpg

Now I know how people have 4 kids. It's because baby #3 is so sweet, and easy going, and simply amazing. Baby #3 tricks you. Because looking at my sweet girl makes me want another one....or five. But then my older kids come storming in to the room and I'm like, yep...we're good.

 photo IMG_8291.jpg

In order to get anything done around the house I've found that wearing Belle is the easiest solution. And luckily she LOVES to be in on the action. And I love having her close to me. I'm trying to soak up every second of her sweetness.

 photo IMG_8292.jpg

I've started to wear her in our new baby carrier by Lumiere. It's easier for me to run errands and wear her....at least that way I have some room in my shopping cart for things other than kids.

 photo IMG_8289.jpg

The Universal Baby Carrier by Lumiere has 6 positions and is super easy to use! It fits newborns all the way up to toddlers and is made for little ones 7-45 pounds! Holy cow...that would be like wearing Hudson, ha!

 photo IMG_8293.jpg

The straps easily adjust to fit you and baby and I've found it easy and quick to put on...which is a bonus when you are juggling three kids! The extra-padded crossable shoulder straps, wide and sturdy waistbelt, and lumbar support provide supreme comfort and alleviate back and shoulder pressure for healthy posture and alignment.

 photo IMG_8296.jpg

This 6-in-1 universal baby carrier features structured bucket seats, lumbar and neck support, sleeping hood, 2-way shoulder straps, pockets, safety harness, and purse holder! I also have an amazing exclusive coupon for all of you! Click here to receive $100 off your carrier...which makes it just $49 and free shipping! Hurry, it's a limited time offer!

Mabel + Bixby

May 24, 2017

 photo IMG_8015.jpg

So I've got some exciting news to share! My mom has been making adorable baby bibs for over 30 years. She's made them for all of my kids....and several friends too. They are seriously the best ever and so so cute. So I'm am thrilled to announce our little baby bib business, Mabel + Bixby!
It's been a fun little side project that I'm excited to finally share it with all of you!

 photo IMG_8250.jpg

Here's yours truly sporting one of the first bibs back in 1985. My mom has improved the design since then so they are even better (and cuter) than ever!

 photo IMG_1420.jpg

We decided to name our little business Mabel + Bixby in honor of my grandma Mabel (my mom's mom) and the street I grew up on in California. My grandma taught my mom to sew...so it's fun to honor her in this way! All of the bibs are carefully sewn by my mom, Bev, and I handle all the other stuff like Instagram and photo taking...and supplying the baby models. My mom tried to teach me to sew back in the day but it was a disaster. It's just not my talent! Thankfully she's crazy talented to make up for it! Maybe one day I'll try to learn again....I'm sure being a hormonal teenager who could care less at the time didn't help the sewing lessons.

 photo FullSizeRender 10.jpg

This is one of my current favorites. I love it so much that we decided to call this one "The Sadie". All bibs are reversible and I'm obsessed with the gingham on the back!

 photo IMG_7946.jpg

Sadie loves her pink floral kitty bib! All of the bibs are washable (just toss them in your washing machine and dryer!) and made from pre-washed 100% cotton. They also featured an inner batting layer, so they are super durable. My kids are ROUGH on them and they still hold up great!

 photo FullSizeRender 5.jpg

We have several adorable boy bib options too!

 photo FullSizeRender 11.jpg

Bibs are made to fit ages 6 months to 4 years and measure 9.5" x 15"

 photo FullSizeRender 12.jpg

A bow can be added to any boy bib to make it a girl bib for free!

 photo FullSizeRender 3.jpg

You can view all of the bibs we have in stock on our facebook page. We are currently just selling on our Instagram @mabelandbixby or by email at mabelandbixby@gmail.com

Mom Hack: Let Someone Else Do Your Shopping

May 23, 2017

 photo IMG_8234.jpg

It's officially happened. Right when we were blessed with baby #3, baby #2 - my easy, go with the flow baby entered the "terrible twos" a few months early. That girl right there screamed "CUDDLE MAMA!" all through the grocery store the other day until I agreed to carry her. Let me tell you something: carrying around an almost two year old while pushing a cart with a baby in it and ALL YOUR GROCERIES is quite the workout. I was sweating bullets by the time I got to check out. No amount of bribery will keep that girl still. So Sadie is officially off of shopping duty. Which means it's now ten times harder for me to run any type of errand.

 photo FullSizeRender.jpg

Which brings me to my most favorite mom hack yet: let someone else do your shopping. We've used Sam's Club Pickup service a few times now and it is a total game changer. Order your items online, select a pick up time, let someone else shop for you, and then pick them up. Yay!

 photo FullSizeRender copy.jpg

With Pickup you can pay online and bypass the line. Your order is ready when you get there! You can seriously order all of your necessities - from grocers and household essentials to office supplies - everything is just one click away. We used next day pick up and it was great! Select Sam's Club locations offer same day delivery too.

 photo IMG_8228.jpg

Can I just order everything online? Because it sure makes my life a thousand percent easier. Here are some of our weekly staples: two types of milk, juice, and frozen strawberries. Everything else I blame on being hungry when I ordered!

 photo IMG_8230.jpg

Since I didn't have to spend an hour dragging my kids through the store, we decided to use that time to explore outside instead. And everyone was much happier!

 photo IMG_8235.jpg

These two give me a run for my money.

 photo IMG_8232.jpg

Right now when you sign up to join Sam's Club you can receive a $20 gift card and a $20 instant savings package. Such a great deal! Learn more about membership here

Thanks to my friends at Sam’s Club for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

Learning to Love the Mess

May 22, 2017

 photo IMG_7930.jpg

I'm going to be real for a minute. Everything posted to Instagram is not always real life. I try to keep it honest as much as I can....but even I clean up the mess or (more often) push it aside and only capture the pretty. In reality, my house is a mess most of the time. And so are my kids. It can take me an entire day to just straighten up one room. I start on a task and get interrupted by tiny humans 1,243 times. And then one of them decides to dump their brother's pokemon cards ALL OVER THE KITCHEN for the 5th time that day and I throw in the towel.

I'll show you what my kitchen looks like right now.

 photo IMG_8002.jpg

That's it. Unedited. Real life. If anything, having three kids is teaching me how to embrace the mess. It won't always be like this. One day my kitchen will be spotless....and I'll miss the little sticky handprints on my refrigerator, the toy cars on the floor, and the art projects on the counter. I did clean up after this photo (it took me all day!) because when my house looks like this it directly effects my mood. But I'm trying to let it slide and not stress about it. It's easier said then done. But my kids are only little once.

 photo IMG_7992.jpg

I'd rather spend my time and energy capturing those sweet first smiles than worrying about the mess.

 photo IMG_7996.jpg

Can you blame me? Look at that sweet face.

 photo FullSizeRender 2.jpg

When it comes to diapers, I let Huggies hug that mess! Huggies have been our go-to diapers for all three of my kids. It's a brand I trust and can stand behind. With Huggies, I don't have to worry about the mess with their Snug & Dry diapers and One & Done Refreshing wipes. (And you all know how I LOVE my Huggies wipes!).

Did you know Family Dollar sells Huggies? Right now you can sign up for their smart coupons and save $2 on any Huggies product! You just sign up and then type your phone number in to the key pad at check out. So easy!

Outdoor Fun and KEEN for the Whole Family

May 15, 2017

KEEN Kids

What happened to spring? It was winter, we had a baby, and all of a sudden it's summertime! Both of my big kids LOVE being outside (I mean, who doesn't) and we have the best backyard for exploring!

KEEN Kids

One of our favorite activities is doing a outdoor scavenger hunt. I make a list of fun things we can hunt around for right in our yard.

Here are some of the things I always include on our list:
- white rock
- rock shaped like a heart
- feather
- 3 dandelions
- a leaf bigger than your hand
- a leaf smaller than your hand
- 3 pinecones
- acorn
- nest
- blue bird
- red bird
- squirrel
- frog
- ant hill
- a surprise (we always end with this....see below)

You get the idea. Neither of my kids can read so we just talk about what's next on our list. Most days I don't even write it down, I just fly by the seat of my pants. Clearly, not a pinterest mom right here. We also think it's fun to have dance or jump breaks during our hunt. We stop and dance whenever they are starting to fight....and it does the trick every time!

KEEN Kids

Sadie prefers finding the rocks and flowers.

KEEN Kids

And Hudson is always on the hunt for a frog. Boys.

KEEN Kids

Dance break! Who can jump the highest??? Whenever they start to argue about who gets to hold what, or who found xyz first, I have them dance or jump. They start to laugh and forget about whatever was causing them to melt down. Mom win!

KEEN Kids

Pinecone and flower! Cross them off the list!

Hudson is wearing his new KEEN Oakridge shoes and we both love them! He's tough on shoes but these have held up great! Perfect for climbing, jumping, and exploring outside.

KEEN Kids

And Sadie is wearing the KEEN Encanto Finley. They are lightweight, keep her feet cool, and are easy to get on and off. Plus they are cute! She loves them!

KEEN Kids

We always end our scavenger hunt with a surprise....and on this day it was popsicles! Or "pop pops" if you're Sadie.
