Movin' On Up

February 19, 2016

 photo IMG_9718.jpg

We've had some big changes around here.

 photo IMG_9717.jpg

First, we had to lower Sadie's crib. And of course the next day she decides to try and stand up....which means we will have to lower it again soon. This girl is trouble.

Girlfriend weighs 20 pounds. Which also means it's time to get her in a convertible carseat! Lugging her around in her infant seat was getting OLD...and HEAVY! I've told her over and over again to stop growing, but she just isn't listening to me. These kids and their growing up....it just kills me.

 photo FullSizeRender.jpg
So we are going to put Sadie in her brand new Maxi-Cosi Pria 70 this weekend! I'm excited for her to be more comfortable in the car....and excited for me that I don't have to lift that infant seat anymore. But it's still sad! Why do babies have to grow up?

 photo FullSizeRender-2.jpg
Sadie's pretty excited about her new pink seat!
Maxi-Cosi’s NEW Pria 70 is a convertible car seat that provides optimal child safety and comfort from 9-70 pounds. With Air Protect technology and CosiCushion premium fabrics and padding, both forward- and rear-facing children are guaranteed maximum protection.

So I feel good about putting her in this seat! Plus it's so soft! Instillation looks standard and it was pretty easy to strap her in. Hudson loves Sadie's seat too and keeps pointing out to me the fact that this carseat is pink.....which means he should have a blue one, right? Sibling rivalry starts early I guess!

Happy Friday friends!

We MOVED!

February 15, 2016

Happy Monday friends! Guess what? I'm writing to you from my NEW HOUSE!

 photo IMG_9652.jpg

Yep...we moved over the weekend and are loving being in our new space. However....the current state of our house makes it look like we just lost a game of Jumanji. There are boxes EVERYWHERE....and just when I fee like I accomplished something I turn around and see a hundred more things to do. But it's still so much fun!

Getting the internet turned on at the house has been a huge debacle...so I'm currently without TV or internet. HELP! Thank goodness for being able to use the hotspot on my phone. I'll keep you posted and share some photos as soon as we are up an running! In the meantime, you can keep up with me on Instagram (girlintheredshoes)

Things they don't tell you about having your second child

February 12, 2016

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 6_2.jpg

Things they don't tell you about having your second child.....

1. You will become a walking vending machine. Except no one gives you any money.

2. You will also start to be called the bag lady by your husband. Because you will carry a GIANT bag with you filled with ALL THE THINGS at all times. My mom made fun of me for having an extra pair of Hudson's undies AND an extra headband for Sadie in my bag yesterday. But I needed both of them so who's laughing now? My motto is always be prepared....I'm like a boy scout or something.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 9_2.jpg

3. When you just had one child, going to Target alone was a little slice of heaven. But now? Going to Target with just one kid instead of two has you leisurely browsing the aisles because YOU ONLY HAVE ONE KID WITH YOU. It's almost as good as being alone. Almost.

4. Your second child will eat all kinds of things you never let your first child eat. Mostly because they will steal them from their older sibling as soon as you turn your back.

5. Your new baby will be the easy child. Late night feedings, teething, and blow outs are easy compared to rationalizing with a 3 year old.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 3_2.jpg

6. Nap schedule? What's that? You planned your life around your first baby's naps. But your second baby will have to go with the flow and nap whenever they can....because life still revolves around your first baby and all their activities. So when they do nap in their bed you REALLY learn to enjoy it!

7. Remember how you documented your first born's every move with weekly updates? And how you wrote detailed notes in their baby book? Well. Your poor second child will turn 8 months old and their baby book will still be empty. If you still haven't ordered your child's baby book I feel for you. You are my people.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 7_3.jpg

8. Your heart isn't yours anymore. It's been toddling around in your toddler's body for years....which was hard enough. But now all of a sudden your heart is in two little bodies. And that pretty much put's you on the verge of ALL THE FEELINGS all the time.

9. Those Olympics commercials where the moms are taking care of their kids who turn out to be star athletes will make you cry every time you see it.

10. You'll never sleep the same way again. Everyone tells you that you won't get much sleep when you become a mom. But what they don't tell you is that once you have two kids your children will conspire against you to keep you up all night. In our house, if one kid decides to sleep through the night it is almost guaranteed that the other one will be up all night long.

 photo FullSizeRender 3_1.jpg

You will, however, get some peace of mind knowing your child is safe while they sleep thanks to the most awesome baby monitor ever. Trust me on this. We recently started using the VTech VM343 baby monitor and it has been a game changer! The screen is large and the quality of the picture is amazing! The monitor's remote pan and tilt camera (with a zoom!!!!) allows me to see all of Sadie's crib while she sleeps. The VM343 pans up to 270 degrees side-to-side and tilts as many as 120 degrees up and down....so no matter where my little wiggle worm scoots around I can see her.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy_2.jpg

The VTech VM343 monitor's digital transmission ensures all videos are private and secure, which makes me feel safer using it. It also has so many features that allow you to cut down on background noise, so the only sounds I hear are Sadie's. And I can control the sensitivity of the sounds it picks up, which is great if you have a noisy sleeper like I do! I can program the monitor to filter out all the little noises she makes while sleeping but still pick up her cries.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 4_2.jpg

11. Once you have a second child, you will constantly be pulled in 7 different directions. The VTech VM343 has a 1,000 foot range, so I can play outside with Hudson and still keep an eye on Sadie. I love that I'm not missing out on anything.

12. A second child means you know the power of a good nigh's rest. You just never actually get one.

Sadie Mae: 8 Months

February 10, 2016

 photo FullSizeRender 3.jpg

Oh my goodness, my baby is 8 months old! Time needs to slow down asap. Know who else needs to slow down? This girl. Sadie's been crawling for over a month now and nothing is going to get in her way. She's also doing this one leg sticking out thing.....which is probably less of a 90's cheerleading move and more of a "I want to stand up NOW" kind of move. See what I mean about her needing to slow down?

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 7_1.jpg

Sadie's biggest developments this month have been perfecting the speed crawl, lots of babbling, and eating puffs. Girlfriend is either starving and wants to eat all the food or could absolutely care less. I think she gets that from me. When she's in the mood she likes puffs, oatmeal, peas, applesauce, bananas, and prunes. Sadie's still breastfeed on demand. She loves her some milk.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 5_1.jpg

Oh, and she loves to clap. And we love to watch her do it.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 6_1.jpg

She typically sleeps 8pm-7am and is up once during the night to nurse. Sometimes she sleeps all night without waking! And I'm happy to report that naps have finally improved...mostly. If we are home and I can distract Hudson long enough to get her to sleep, she'll nap in her crib for 1-2 hours, two times a day. But since she's a second child, we are rarely home all day. It's funny, because I remember scheduling EVERYTHING around Hudson's nap schedule. This poor girl just has to go with the flow as we hustle around town for her big brother's activities. She's perfected the nap in the car.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 4_1.jpg

Sadie's a mama's girl for sure and is happiest when I'm holding her. But she has major heart eyes for her daddy and her brother. I love the way she loves Hudson. Her eyes light up when he talks to her and he is such a big helper, especially when Sadie's upset. Hudson can cheer her up and make her smile like no one else can.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 2_1.jpg

Sadie has a cold and runny nose right now, which means she only wants to nap while I'm holding her. I would happily oblige and hold her all day long....except Hudson wouldn't be too happy about that. The "Babies Don't Keep" poem usually makes me cry, but right now I just have to laugh at the "so quiet down cobwebs, dust go to sleep" part....it should really read, "so quiet down toddlers"...because he just can't seem to be quiet when I'm rocking her ever.

I have no clue of her height and weight.......but I have a feeling she's right on track with her big brother at this age.

 photo IMG_9405.jpg

Hudson calls her "baby Sadie" or "Sadie Mae" and it's just about the cutest thing ever. We just love this girl to pieces. She's the perfect fit to our little family. Happy 8 months Sadie girl!

The Force is strong with this one

February 8, 2016

 photo FullSizeRender 2.jpg

There's no doubt about it....Hudson is Star Wars obsessed. He isn't old enough to watch the movies but he plays with the toys and is constantly on the look out for any thing Star Wars related.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 3.jpg

So of course he flipped out over the new Star Wars decals in some of his favorite cereals!

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 9.jpg

Right now General Mills Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cookie Crisp, Cheerios and Cheerios Multi Grain include one of six exclusive decals. With cameos from both the light and dark sides, the decals feature character appearances from: R2-D2 & C-3PO, Chewbacca, BB-8, Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma and a Stormtrooper.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 8.jpg
Of course Hudson was thrilled.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 7.jpg

We used the decals from the boxes along with some glow in the dark stars to create a little space scene backdrop. And we plan to use the decals again in Hudson's new room after we move in this weekend! He can't wait.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 6.jpg

The way to Hudson's heart is through food and Star Wars.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy.jpg

To make things even more fun, we made some stick puppets out of the decals too. They are re-useable so I know we will have lots of fun with these for a long time.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 5.jpg

If you ask him, Hudson will tell you his favorite Star Wars characters are R2-D2, C-3PO, and Chewbacca.

 photo FullSizeRender 3 copy 4.jpg

He calls the new droid, BB-8 "Silly D2" for whatever reason. And if someone corrects him I'll loose it. It's just so stinkin' cute. So of course Silly D2 is his favorite. I think Hudson is going to LOVE finally watching the Star Wars movies with us some day. But for now we'll enjoy making up our own stories!

7 Things I can't do that other moms probably can

February 3, 2016

 photo things I cant do.jpg

1. Fold a fitted sheet. My mom has shown me over and over again...and I just can't get it.

2. Cut my baby's fingernails. I am SO bad at this. And it's crazy stressful! I'm always worried I'm going to cut Sadie's finger off, or cut her nail too short and make her bleed. Plus she's usually flailing  around like a banshee and won't sit still. If I could pay someone to come and clip her nails every week, I totally would.

3. Use a rectal thermometer on my child. I. Just. Can't. Do. It.

4. Watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. That show drives me up the wall. We don't have cable right now which means I've gotten a nice little break from Mickey and the gang. Whenever we watch it I find myself wishing the mystery mousketool could be wine.

5. Go grocery shopping with two kids. Unless I'm desperate, you won't catch me grocery shopping with both kids in tow. I just find it too stressful. I'll run to Target or Costco with both kids but for some reason the grocery store is just way out of my league.

6. Make a pot of coffee. Seriously I have no idea. I don't know how to use a keurig either. If we want coffee (which is very rare) we head to Starbucks.

7. Not shave my legs. I may go a week without washing my hair, but I rarely skip shaving my legs. I can't stand a little stubble....especially when I'm trying to sleep. It drives me up the wall!

Now it's your turn...what can't you do?
