Denial....it's not just a river in Egypt....

May 18, 2015

Happy Monday friends! Let's talk about pregnancy DENIAL. Because I am suffering big time.
1. I can't believe we are going to have a baby in 3 weeks (or less....hopefully less). Where did the time go? Didn't I just announce I was expecting? Once you hit 30 weeks, it's all down hill from there.

2. If you are wondering why I haven't posted about the baby's nursery, it's because it still pretty much looks like this. But we have a sheet on the crib now (thanks mom!). And a dresser that is in parts on the floor. See what I mean about denial?

3. Also, speaking of denial.....I have a major problem. I can't get my wedding rings off of my finger. I tried a few weeks ago (I think?) when my hands were having a particularly swelly day to take them off and they wouldn't budge....so I just made a mental note to try again the next day. And hello mom brain/denial.....here we are a few weeks later and they WILL NOT BUDGE. We tried everything yesterday and my poor finger is all kinds of mad at me and life now. In my defense, my rings are a full size smaller than when I was pregnant with Hudson. (Having Hudson and breastfeeding him sucked the fat out of me and my rings were clanking around....so we had them resized down and soldered together). It's been hot and humid the last few days and is supposed to cool down tomorrow. We are going to attempt a technique I found on you tube (don't google it, it will make you sick)....so please pray that it works. Otherwise I'm going to be THAT girl that needs her rings cut off. So embarrassing that I let it get this bad.

4. I panicked a bit this weekend and bought a ton of little things we still needed: diapers, wipes, new mattress pads, a changing pad and cover, a few picture frames for the wall, and new breast pump tubing. All such glamorous stuff, I know....but I feel a little better.

5. I sorted through Hudson's baby clothes and we have a lot less gender neutral stuff than I thought we did. But a girl can wear dinosaur jammies right?

Send help. And a giant virgin margarita.

  1. Don't stress momma - my second babe came at 35 weeks and I was in the same boat! It's amazing how it all magically pulls together... Hope those rings come off friend x

  2. I used to be a jeweler for like 5 years and one of my best tricks for getting off your rings is Windex. Just spray it on your finger and ring and it lives up your finger to and cleans the rings at the same time.

  3. Your rings!! But serves you right for losing weight nursing. Because my bod won't shed one single pound while I nurse. SO THERE.

And kenz is currently rocking navy hedgehog jams from the boy section. So bring on the dinosaurs!

  4. Ouchie to the rings!! I've had trouble w/ mine getting stuck in the past (summer months, weight gain, ugh!) and I hate that panicky feeling of not being able to take them off- hope your trick works!! And yes- dino jammies are totally for girls too!

  5. Piece of advice from a mama that didn't find out what she was having - don't go crazy on gender neutral clothes. Since it was my first and I felt like I should buy {tons} of clothes - I bought a few weeks worth of yellow/green/teal/gray sleepers & onsies. But in less than a week I had plenty of girl clothes and she hardly wore the neutral ones. People gave us outfits and it's amazing how fast shipping is these days. I was online shopping the day we got home from the hospital!

  6. I hate that about your ring! That happened to me right after Walker was born. I put them on for his newborn portraits and they wouldn't come off for anything! I tried all the tricks in the book, but my finger was swelling big time and turning purple. So, I called the fire department and they came to my house {of course like five of them IN the fire truck, even though I begged for them to please come in a regular car if they could} and cut my ring off while I was on maternity leave! Brandon was at work, too. I was SO embarrassed!!!

  7. The same thing happened to me with my ring! I was so sad when I had to take it off but when it scared me half to death and totally got stuck, I figured that was the best option. Good luck!! Thinking of you! Hope it works!

  8. Oh my gosh your rings, that would scare me! I hope you don't swell much more and you can keep them on! Lol about the denial... I feel like that's going to be me this time around too... its so much harder when you already have a little one to focus on and it's all going SO fast.

  9. My rings got stuck when I was about 38 weeks with Owen and I went and had them cut off! As the pregnancy progressed over the next few weeks and I continued to retain water it became more and more uncomfortable. i just bought a big fake diamond band at Target as a place holder. I'm really glad I did it too because I ended up being sooooo bloated after all of the inducing / labor / surgery that they would have had to cut them off in the hospital. I was able to just have it done at my jeweler and it was quick and painless!

  10. Your poor finger! Don't stress I swear it makes it worse! And to make you feel better...with my first son I went to 42 weeks so I thought I had tons of time left with my second son. He was born at 38 weeks. I had nothing ready, no diapers, no washed clothes. Just remember they will send you home with some diapers and all you need is a blankie to swaddle. And sending luck for the ring trick tomorrow!

  11. Girl you've probably tried some of these but I took a warm bath, lathered soap all over my finger and put my hand under the water and starred twisting my ring off, it hurt soooo bad, I was screaming but I was determined not to cut my engagement ring. We did end up having to cut the wedding band. And I also had an anniversary ring on that I used hemorroid medicine to take off. I just kept twisting it and yes it still hurt but I got it off.

  13. Oh mama! Your rings! Nothing worse too when you're trying to pull it off and your finger is turning all blue and you're starting to sweat and it hurts all the worse! I hope you find a solution! I totally agree not to get too too many gender neutral clothes because if he/she turns out to be a she, you will be buying all the pink and purple in no time!

  14. You look great, pretty mama. I can imagine the denial being real. I'm so sorry about your rings, I only know lotion, butter or oil. I hope your technique works.

  15. Hoping that this last ditch technique works on your rings! And as unprepared as you might feel now, as long as you have the basics, you will be fine. Vivi has been rocking some frog jammies of Calebs. Bring on the dinosaurs:)

  16. Everything will come together ok in the end! So denial or no denial, it'll all be ok! :)

  17. Love your honesty! That baby isn't going to care if he/she has a fancy nursery or gender appropriate clothes! So don't stress! Diapers and wipes are most important and you have that covered now!

  18. Yeah, I was in denial too. I think I still am? :p

    Also, hilarious post title.

  19. Those rings- Ouch! Hope you are able to get them off.
Also, your pregnancy style is to die for- I wish I was that cute when I was pregnant!

  20. Hi Julie! I've been a reader for a while but never comment...I was in the same boat as you with my wedding rings about a month ago. I was fully prepared to try the scary technique you mentioned-but I combined some other ideas that worked. I started by drinking a TON of water to help reduce swelling, then caked my finger with preparation H and held my hand over my head for about 20 minutes, then I sprayed a ton of windex all over it and was able to twist my rings off! I hope you find something that works for you!!

  21. I always make a point of stopping by the boy section for Aria. They have some cute things in there! Girls loves dinos too. And I find the plaid in the boy section is much better than the girl section.

  22. I just died, I never got my rings resized and with each weight fluctuation they either fit perfect or are a bit loose- my weight barometer if you will ;) I have confidence you will pull it all off beautifully!

  23. Girl, I am with you...I am four days past due and am waiting on my final order of "stuff" from Target and Amazon. Oops! And, Cam's still sleeping in the only crib we have, so I am thankful that newborns don't need cribs. Everything will work out, right? I feel like all we really need are diapers and blankets - Louise is totally getting all of Cameron's animal blankets because who has the money to buy ten more A&A blankets for girls? Ha! I cannot wait to find out what you're having!! Best of luck in these last few weeks!!
