Those Break Your Heart Mama Moments

September 29, 2014

Every mom knows what I'm talking about. Those break your heart mama moments when your child is sick and is calling your name and there is basically nothing you can do to make him feel better.

That was us this Saturday. We had plans to meet up with friends for my husband's college homecoming. There was a kids fair set up and we had gotten Hudson all excited about it. But, as you know, motherhood makes it pretty impossible to have plans and actually stick to them. Hudson woke up from his nap covered in vomit. He cried my name and when I went to get him he vomited again. And it didn't stop there. Every 30 minutes my poor boy would whimper and then throw up. I felt horrible. There was nothing I could do but wrap him in a towel and hold him. So that's what we did all afternoon. Thankfully by 7:00 he seemed to be feeling better and asked for a snack. I crossed my fingers he wouldn't throw up again and thankfully he didn't. He ate those cheerios like it was his job, drank some pedialyte, and then passed out in his crib.

As much as I hated seeing him sick, I couldn't help but be thankful for an otherwise healthy boy. Hudson hasn't been sick in a long time, so a 4 hour stomach bug we can handle. And I am so thankful for the snuggles. I snuggled that boy all afternoon and it was the sweetest. It was one of those break your heart moments...seeing your boy sick and so loving at the same time. I am constantly reminded that one day he won't need me for everything. I'm trying to soak up these moments while I can.

By Sunday morning he was feeling much better.

And by the afternoon he was back to his normal busy self.

So that pretty much sums up our entire weekend! My how things have changed. How was your weekend?

  1. Poor Hudson! Glad you got in some extra snuggles. Liam has never thrown up, but I'm already dreading whenever that day comes!

  7. Oh poor little guy! Maddie had that a few months ago too and it just the worst. She was too little to understand what was happening and had such fear in her eyes every time she was about to vomit, she just didn't know what was happening. Oh it is just the hardest thing. People think its horrible being sick yourself, but it is nothing on having a sick child. I'm so glad it only lasted 4 hours and that he's feeling better now. Poor little guy!!! xx

  8. Poor Hudson! We had a stomach bug last year where my son (who was 2 at the time) threw up 11 times from 11:30 pm to 6:30 am. I felt so bad for him, so I can totally relate to how you felt for Husdon! Glad to see he's feeling better.

  9. Awww, this broke my heart! I'm so glad he's feeling better.

I remember about a year ago, Anabelle got a virus and wouldn't stop throwing up. After the most anxious ER visit, we finally got some medicine in her to stop the vomiting. It was the scariest thing ever!

  18. Aww! Poor Hudson! It really does break a mama's heart when the littles are sick! Kaitlyn's had a fever for over a week and it's just frustrating when you can't wave a magic wand to make things all better. Hope your week is better!
