Throwing it back....waaaay back

June 5, 2014

Do you know what you should do if you ever need something to blog about on a uneventful Thursday? Just pull out some of your old high school scrapbooks and your blog post will basically write itself.

Let's throw it back....waaaay back....

Freshman year of high school. That boy I'm snuggled up to was my ex-boyfriend turned best friend. Also pictured are his best guy friend...and my best girl friend who reads this blog (hi Rebecca!) and some random dude photo booming in the background. We were all in the band (bet you didn't know that about me! Looking back those were some of my favorite memories!) but since I was also a cheerleader I got to skip out on the marching band part. Praise Jesus. But I did have one of those band uniforms for when I wasn't cheering....thankfully my duties as a clarinet player were contained to the bleachers and not out on the field. My friends, however, weren't as lucky. But I think they had fun, so what do I know?

That year, pretty much everyone thought that my ex-bf and I were still dating...because we were basically always together (funny how that works) so NO ONE asked me to the winter formal. I was pretty devastated. And mad at that blonde haired boy on the left for not asking me. So I did what any freshman girl would do....walked up to the cute boy at church who I had never said one word to in my life, introduced myself and asked him to go to my school dance with me. Believe it or not he said yes! And we had a great time. And I'm pretty sure mr. ex-bf didn't have fun with his date at all (she's not pictured above...probably because this was at my house and mr. ex-bf knew better).

This totally started the "not-asking-julie-to-the-dance curse", as my mom and I would call it. If you were supposed to ask me to the dance and then you didn't, it was guaranteed that you would have a bad time and regret your decision for the rest of your life. It's true people. It happened at least three other times.

Moving on...I got cuter sophomore year. And also transferred high schools (along with all of my friends, so don't feel too sorry for me). And I ditched the band.

And that boy made the whole "freshman dance fiasco thing" up to me by taking me to not one, but two other high school dances....as friends of course. But we had the best time. We went to the winter dance my sophomore year AND he came back from college to take me to the prom my senior year. I didn't have the best of luck with boyfriends in high school, other than my junior year when 3 boys asked me to prom. I totally peaked that year and it has all been downhill after that! Ha!

Don't you just love my scrapbook paper? This was the first day of school my senior year, and I happened to write a note in the scrapbook that it was September 5, 2000. I love that I wrote that down because twelve years later on September 5th I became a mama!

Stay tuned for more high school adventures at one point....maybe I'll get up the courage to show you the really embarrassing photos.....there are plenty!
