Turn it Green!

January 28, 2014

Recycling and taking care of the earth is something that has always been important to me....and I want to make sure Hudson does his part to help live a greener lifestyle! That is why I'm so exited to talk to you  today about REPREVE. They turn recycled plastic bottles into cool stuff that you can wear....how awesome is that?
The luckiest plastic bottles get made into a recycled fleece beanie made from REPREVE. One REPREVE green beanie is made from 6 recycled plastic bottles!

Isn't that crazy? And the luckiest of the REPREVE beanies get to grace my head...ha!

The U.S. plastic bottle recycling rate is less than 30 percent—so less than one-third of all plastic bottles get recycled. Most people don’t think about what happens to plastic bottles after you recycle them. So REPREVE is on a mission to get the word out: Just recycle more.

Here are 5 things I'm doing to help teach Hudson to turn it green:
 1. Recycle. We ALWAYS recycle and are teaching him how much fun it can be!

2. Re-use. We've repurposed and re-used a lot of Hudson's toys. We got his used play kitchen for free and fixed it up for him! We've also gotten lots of used toys from church sales and he even has a few of my own toys from when I was little.

3. Conserve water. This is a no-brainer. We talk about this with Hudson when we brush his teeth.

4. Grow a garden. Each spring my husband plants a little garden in our back yard so that we have fresh veggies all summer. This year Hudson is going to be his helper!

5. Drink from a re-usable water bottle. We keep it green by drinking out of these instead of buying tons and tons of plastic bottles.

What tips do you have for teaching your children to lead a sustainable lifestyle? Be sure to enter the REPREVE contest by creating an image or video of how you practice these tips and share your submission on their Instagram, Twitter or Vine with the hashtag #TurnItGreen and tag @REPREVE.

REPREVE will take recycling to new heights with a special green event at the 2014 Winter X Games Aspen (Jan. 23-26, 2014).

REPREVE sponsored this post — but my love for sustainability and turning it green is all my own.
