Flashback....Wrigley

July 28, 2011

Photobucket
The other day the husband and I were looking back at some old pictures of Wrigley's first few weeks with us. Holy Cuteness.

Photobucket
When was he ever this little? It seems like SO long ago.

Photobucket
He has loved sticks from the beginning.

Photobucket
I can't even remember him being smaller than Pancake.

Photobucket
After seeing this one the husband said "maybe we should get another puppy". Ha....yeah right. I bet that's how people talk themselves into having more kids.

Photobucket
Wrigley used to torture the kitties. Actually that hasn't changed...he still does.

Photobucket
What happened to my little puppy?

Vintage Finds

July 25, 2011

One of the many perks of having my mom out here is that she brought me tons of vintage items that we have been collecting since I was little. Some of it was my grandma's and some we bought over the years. Every time I see my mom I get a new box of stuff!

Photobucket
Like this Pepsi crate and cake plate. LOVE! Now I need to figure out something cute to do with the crate. (sorry for the crummy iphone photos....something is wrong with my camera) (oh and the galvanized tiered stand in the background is not vintage...it's from pottery barn)

Photobucket
And my favorite polka-dot mixing bowl set. My mom has a set with black dots...so adorable.

Photobucket
And all of my pyrex dishes! I totally forgot I had these.

Photobucket
And some jade mixing bowls. I have six mugs too. I must find a way to incorporate these into my kitchen color scheme.

Photobucket
And no vintage finds post would be complete without including a few mason jars. I love the lids. And isn't the cake plate to die for? Once I find everything a home I'll post more pictures. Happy Monday everyone!

Birthday Weekend

July 18, 2011

Thank you for all of the sweet birthday messages! You all sure know how to make a girl feel special.

My birthday weekend was perfect. A little shopping with my mom, dinners out, Harry Potter watching (loved it!), apple pie, and some sweet gifts. What could be better?

The husband surprised me with this gorgeous ceramic watch....and funny enough my mom got me one that was almost identical. They know me well! So her watch got returned and now I'm on the hunt for something to replace it. Maybe a fun new purse or shoes? Decisions, decisions.

The awesome surprise of the day goes to my husband's cousin's wife, Melissa. She sent me this adorable cake plate....that she made herself! A mason jar cake plate??? Are you kidding me! I loved it. Thank you Melissa! And thanks to my co-workers for the amazing yummy cookies.

On Saturday the husband and I went up to my mom's lake cottage to relax and go tubing with friends. My mom finally has furniture up there and it's starting to look like a real house! I'll post pictures as soon as she's done adding her special touch to the place.

The husband tubing in the lake. It was a gorgeous day but so hot!

That's me! My arms are still aching from holding on so tight. Oh, and I desperately need a tan.

Thanks again to everyone for making my birthday special. Can we please celebrate my birthday every month?

Start each day like it's your birthday

July 14, 2011

Today I'll do just that...because today is my birthday!

Photobucket
Have to include my traditional birthday photo of course.

I plan on eating lots of cake, lunch with my mom, a date night with the husband, seeing Harry Potter this weekend, and maybe some shopping. Perfect.

And....FAIL

July 11, 2011

For some reason every project we attempted this weekend failed. Big time.

Like this awesome light fixture I tried to install in our new bathroom.

The above photo is not my bathroom....although I wish it was. The galvanized light fixture, although really cool, is also small. Too small to cover up the giant holes in our walls thanks to our builder-boring light fixtures. Yes, I guess the holes could be patched....but I have no idea how to do that. FAIL. So I thought maybe the fixture could go in our downstairs bathroom instead. Sounds reasonable right?

After about 30 minutes I got the fixture up and it looked great. Ran down to the basement to turn the power back on to the bathroom and....FAIL. It turned on just fine but it was way too dark in our little windowless bathroom. Too dark to take a picture. Too dark to see yourself well in the mirror. Too dark to actually use the bathroom. Word to the wise: only used this type of light fixture if you have a very bright bathroom and have other sources of light. So after all that work I took it down. And then couldn't find a piece of the old fixture to reconnect it. FAIL. Eventually it was found...but only after I cut myself twice on sharp wires.

Our second project was staining our deck. Totally thought we could get it done in one weekend. FAIL. The poor husband worked like crazy on it Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and it's only just about halfway done. It was 90 degrees all weekend and if you know me you know that hot weather, hot sun, and Julie don't mix well. At all. So I helped each evening but it just wasn't enough to get the job done. Oh well. It will get done eventually, right?

There were some bright moments in our failure weekend.

Like successfully preparing for the upcoming Harry Potter movie this weekend by watching as many HP movies as possible.

And getting wrapped up in the women's soccer quarter-finals.

I call that an accomplishment. How was your weekend?

Why you haven't heard from me....

July 5, 2011

We successfully moved my mom across the country last week. Oh man it was a ton of work. Probably one of the hardest things I have ever done emotionally and physically. And on three hours of sleep!
We were SO glad when it was over! We were so exhausted we didn't even have time to be sad about leaving...which was good! It took four guys about six hours to load up all of our stuff...which means we had WAY too many things. Oh well. It also took lots of help from several of my mom's wonderful friends to make it all happen...thank you!

The next day we hit the road....the cat and dog did really well but were totally over it by the time we arrived in Michigan four days later. Thank you for all of your kind comments and well wishes! I'm so ready to get back to normal life!
