Of Course...

Well, I'm finally back home after ten days of vacation! And let me tell you....after ten days of hot hot weather in California and Hawaii, the cool fall weather in Michigan sure feels nice! Of course when we got home we discovered our MacBook power charger was fried. There was a power outage while we were gone which might have something to do with it. So it's either buy a new power cord (our 4th one!) or buy a new computer. We were planning to get a new computer in December anyway and don't really want to throw more money at our dying laptop. computer for me! We are off to the Apple store...not gonna lie, I'm excited!

So hopefully I'll be able to post some vacay pictures on my new laptop tomorrow!

Leavin' on a Jet Plane....

Hi everyone! I'm currently on a plane headed back home to Michigan after a wonderful vacation in California and Hawaii! Could you tell I was gone??? I scheduled some blog posts to go up while I was away just to be sneaky. I didn't want any crazy stalkers to figure out we were gone and decide to break in to our house and kitty-nap Pancake or Henry! Not that something like that would ever happen.

Some of you sneaky bloggers might have noticed I didn't really comment on blogs.....but I can't wait to catch up on all of your posts as soon as I can!

And I promise to bore you with as many vacation pictures as possible when I return.

Love it....Keep it: Fall TV Shows

Confession: I love TV. I love my DVR even more. The husband doesn't understand why I love to record TV shows so much....and I can't explain it. If I see a show I like I hit record! We hardly ever watch live TV anymore. It's awesome.

I am really looking forward to being able to watch all of my favorite shows again!

Like Grey's Anatomy. I heart Derek and Meredith. It's been on for awhile but I still love this show.

And if you watch Grey's Anatomy, you have to watch Private Practice too! Duh.

And I love me some Desperate Housewives. Who doesn't? Yes, the story lines are ridiculous. But I don't care.

And Glee! I'm so excited for this to return. Love love love it! If you're not watching Glee, you are missing out!

And don't even get me started on Modern Family. Best. Show. Ever. The husband even agrees with me on this. Which never happens.

Another favorite is The Vampire Diaries on the CW. We don't get this channel anymore (silly U-Verse) but I try to catch it online. Does anyone know when it starts back up?

And finally, my good old stand by, The Office. Why is Steve Carell leaving? I hope this season is amazing!

What shows are on your must watch list? I feel like I'm forgetting a few....

My favorite Macaroni and Cheese Recipe

A few weeks ago I mentioned that the husband had a a craving for homemade macaroni and cheese. So, being the sweet wife that I am, I made it for him. And it was heavenly. A few of you asked for the recipe, so I thought I'd share it. It is based off of Pioneer Woman's recipe...and if you've ever made anything of hers you know it's delicious! I tried to make it a little less fattening with a few little changes. It still tasted yummy.

  • 4 cups dried macaroni

  • 1 whole egg beaten

  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 2-½ cups milk (I used 1%)
  • 2 teaspoons (heaping) dry mustard
  • 1 pound cheese, grated (I used half colby jack and half mild cheddar. Oh and grate it yourself...don't buy the pre-grated doesn't taste as good)
  • ½ teaspoons salt
  • ½ teaspoons seasoned salt
  • ½ teaspoons ground black pepper
  1. Cook macaroni until very firm. It should be too firm to eat right out of the pot.
  2. In a small bowl, beat egg.
  3. In a large pot, melt butter and sprinkle in flour. Whisk together over medium-low heat. Cook mixture for five minutes, whisking constantly. Don’t let it burn!
  4. Pour in milk, add mustard, and whisk until smooth. Cook for five minutes until very thick. Reduce heat to low.
  5. Take 1/4 cup of the sauce and slowly pour it into beaten egg, whisking constantly to avoid cooking eggs. Whisk together till smooth.
  6. Pour egg mixture into sauce, whisking constantly. Stir until smooth.
  7. Add in cheese and stir to melt.
  8. Add salt and pepper. Taste sauce and add more salt and seasoned salt as needed! I usually add a little more seasoned salt at this step. Be sure that you do not undersalt.
  9. Pour in drained, cooked macaroni and stir to combine. Resist taking big spoonfulls and shoving them in your mouth!
  10. Pour macaroni into a baking dish and top with extra cheese. Bake at 350 for 20 to 25 minutes or until bubbly and golden on top.
  11. Enjoy!

Love it . . . Keep it: Personalized Wedding Gifts

Welcome to Love it...Keep it, where I talk about something I'm currently lovin' and keepin'. Right now I have wedding on the best friend, Erin, is getting married in two days! I'm so excited for her.

I've been thinking a lot about personalized wedding gifts...and how much I love them! I've been holding on to some of the ideas for awhile....but it seems like most of our friends are already married. So I thought I would share some cute ideas with you.

First I am absolutely in love with this wire hanger. Isn't it adorable? This is perfect for your dress pictures. I wish I'd had one of these back when I got married. They are handmade by lilafrances on Etsy. They take about 10 weeks to since I am a big time procrastinator I never got one of these ordered for any of my friends....sorry! She makes them for baby clothes maybe I'll have my act together once my friends have a baby!

I also love this Mr. and Mrs. keepsake dish. Perfect for keeping your rings safe if you ever have to take them off. Love it. You can also find this on Etsy made by SayYourPiece.

These are also adorable. I love that they come as a set of two! I think I might need to buy these.

Another of my favorite personalized gifts is a cute garter from The Gartermaker. I got my garter through them and it was absolutely perfect! They will make your garter in any color you want so you can match it your wedding. They also will add a monogram or wedding date. I took the traditional route with a blue bow as my "something blue." Above is a picture I took the week before my wedding of my garter and red shoes (of course!).
And finally, I am absolutely in love with this idea from Frame the Date. You can frame pictures of your wedding date numbers. They can be a little pricey to solve that I just made my own! All you have to do is take some pictures of the numbers you need...or you could just look for stock images online. Find a cute frame and you are all set! Above is one I made for our house of our wedding date.

Here is the one I made for our friends Mo and Ali for their shower! Such a cute gift idea and so easy to do.

What are your favorite personalized wedding gifts?

A little bit of this and that...

Happy Monday everyone. I have a feeling this week is going to be so long! It is always hard to come back to a full week after working a short week because of a holiday.

I don't really have anything interesting to post today...and zero photos. I'm sorry for being such a bad blogger.

This weekend we didn't really do too much...and it was wonderful. On Saturday we went to our friends Joel and Amy's house to watch football. Well, we mostly talked, but watched some football here and there. We saw them last weekend too....sensing a trend? Joel and the husband are bff at work, which makes me glad because I heart Joel and Amy and their precious baby boy. I forgot to bring my camera...again! But, I did make Southern in the City's Buffalo Chicken Dip and it was a hit! So yummy, and perfect for a football game snack. I highly recommend it.

Also, thanks for all of your sweet comments about our upcoming trip to Maui! I'll make sure to post pictures once we go. I'm really exacted about the trip but a little overwhelmed with all that I have to do before leaving...especially when it comes to making sure everything is set for our pets. My sister-in-law, Erin, is going to be pet sitting for us...we are so lucky to have someone who is willing to watch our crazy bunch!

I hope you have a great work week! Anyone have fun plans for the weekend? Please share!

Love it . . . Keep it: Vacation

Welcome to love it keep it! Right now all I can think about is an upcoming vacation we have planned. We are going to Maui and are so excited! This will be the first real trip the husband and I have taken together since our honeymoon almost two years ago. Isn't that sad? I guess when of you starts a new job, you buy a house, and get a puppy, it makes it hard to travel!

We will be staying in Lahaina at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa and can't wait for some great views, yummy food, and pool time. I've already scheduled us a zip line tour and snorkeling trip. We probably will also do the road to Hana and maybe fit in a luau.

So, I need some suggestions from you all! Where should we eat? What should we do? Anything we must see while we are there?

I heart long weekends....

I love long weekends, don't you? On Saturday we did some shopping and picked up the husband some new shirts and ties. Then we headed on over to my sister-in-law, Erin's house to visit and see my in-laws. Saturday evening we attended a surprise birthday party...but it was so cold (we went from 90 degree weather to 60s in just days) I totally forgot to take pictures!

On Sunday we headed out to Saugatuck with our friends Geori and Will, and Joel and Amy. Saugatuck is a really pretty fun town in Michigan that is right by the water. They have tons of restaurants and cute little shops. We did some shopping and had dinner and drinks. While we were eating this grandpa-aged guy pulled up in this:

It was like and old man's motorcycle complete with three wheels and a steering wheel. It drew a crowd for sure.

September '10_8401
And then some people walked by with some big birds. Of course I had to hold one.

September '10_8402
Birds totally terrify me....but this one was okay...until he started flapping his wings!

After dinner we walked by the water and then headed out to this fun bar that is right on the water...what was it called? Red Dock maybe?
September '10_8406
There was a big boat there.
September '10_8408
The boys (Will, Joel, and the husband) bought cigars and took a little smoke break on the dock. Yuck. I hate cigars. But they had fun I guess.

And I have zero pictures of the girls. Geeze I had one rum punch and I couldn't think no pictures. Sorry Geori and Amy! We'll have to all get together soon...we had a great time!

September '10_8420
After our fun day out we came home and let Wrigley have a play date with Rye, the dog across the street. They were crazy but had fun.

On Monday we lounged around, did a ton of laundry, grocery shopping, and gave Wrigley a bath. It was so nice to have that extra day!
I hope you had a great weekend! Why is it so hard to go back to work after having Monday off???
