A Letter to Fall....

August 31, 2010

Dear Fall,

Please hurry up and get here. I am so over summer and the hot weather. I can't wait for your crisp mornings and cool evenings. I can't wait to wear boots and scarves and cozy sweaters.

Oh and don't even get me started on the leaves....LOVE your changing colors.

I'm ready for pumpkin patches....

And hot apple cider

And some college football.

So please, make it speedy and get here already!

To Junior League or not to Junior League?

August 30, 2010

Lately I've been thinking about joining the local Junior League chapter. I've never been a part of Junior League but I love their mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities. And to be honest, I think it would be a great way to meet women my age. I haven't exactly made a lot of friends here. It is really hard to move to a town without knowing anyone. The husband went to college here so he has friends....and I love them and their wives, but it would also be nice to meet some other people too.

So my question to all of you is what has been your experience with Junior League? What was the time commitment like? Do you love it?

Oh and another bonus....Betty Ford was a member of my local JL chapter...who could resist that?

Love it . . . Keep it: Zappos

August 26, 2010

Welcome to "Love it...Keep it" where I talk about something I'm currently lovin' on. Lately I've been loving shoe shopping online...especially at They have tons of shoes and best of shipping on everything plus free shipping on returns. Does it get any better than that? And no, I'm not getting paid to say this!

Online shoe shopping has helped me a ton...especially since it seems my options for cute shoes are somewhat limited out here in Michigan. I've been on the hunt for the perfect silver shoes for the best friend's upcoming wedding...and bought no less than four pairs online. Three of which were easily returned. Here's the one I'm keeping:

Adorable right? And they're comfortable.

I also got these (as you saw yesterday in my Wordless Wednesday post) just for fun.

The other day I had an issue with a return label for a pair of shoes that didn't fit. I e-mailed Zappos and not only did they get back to me within 24 hours, they also solved my problem and updated me to VIP status...which means free overnight shipping on all of my future orders. Score!

If you are on the hunt for cute shoes...check them out!

***again, these thoughts were my own and I was not paid to write this

Survey about....well, me!

August 24, 2010

I found this survey from A Sweet Georgia Peach and Life in its Ordinary Form and thought it was cute and would make for a fun blog.

1. Do you plan outfits?
I don’t exactly plan outfits but I usually have some idea in my head what I’m going to wear. However some days I just stand in my closet and stare until something catches my eye. I’ve been late a few times to work because of this.

2. What is the closest thing to you that is red?
My Kitchen aid mixer.

3. What are you craving right now?
I would die for some Swedish fish right now. Yum. I’m trying to avoid them because I can’t control myself and end up eating way too many.

4. Do you bite into your ice cream or lick it?
Lick for sure.
5. Have you ever met a celebrity?
Yes! Billy Blanks (the Tae Bo guy) and Ty Pennington from Extreme Makeover Home Edition. I have pictures with both of them somewhere…..

6. Do you like cottage cheese?
Yes! But it has to be low fat…and it is really good with fruit on it. Why does everyone hate cottage cheese????
7. What are you listening to right now?
The Bachelor Pad. I’m sort of obsessed.

8. Were your parents strict?
Not really. I was raised by my mom and we usually just talked things out. Plus I was a very good kid and didn’t want to break any rules, so I’m sure that helped.
9. Would you go to dinner with George W. Bush?
Of course! When I was little my friend and I wrote to George Bush Sr. when he was president. Someone from his administration wrote back and sent us an 8x10 photo of the entire Bush family in front of the white house. I need to find that photo!

10. What are your plans this weekend?
I’m not so sure yet…but there will definitely be some cleaning and laundry involved.

11. Are you clumsy?
Sometimes I am…I run in to a lot of things. I always seem to have a random bruise on my arm or knee.

12. Favorite time of the year?
Hands down my absolute favorite time of the year is fall. Michigan is beautiful when the leaves start changing colors. I love wearing cozy sweaters, sipping hot chocolate, going to the cider mill, picking out a pumpkin, and snuggling with the husband. Plus our wedding anniversary is in the fall!

13. Favorite color?
Believe it or not, red is NOT my favorite color (although it is my favorite shoe color). Green has been my favorite color since I was really little…I’ve never changed.

14. Are you sarcastic?

15. Do you sleep with the TV on?
No. I like my room dark and quiet, with just the hum of a fan.

16. Name 3 things you bought yesterday:
Um, nothing. Here is what I bought Saturday:
1. Toothpaste
2. Jello
3. Aloe
17. Could you ever forgive a cheater?
I don’t really know the answer to this because I’ve never been in that type of situation….but I’m leaning towards no way.

18. What are you wearing?
Geeze, what kind of survey is this??? Just kidding. If you must know I’m in comfy pants and an MSU t-shirt.

19. What is your favorite candy?
Swedish fish, Reese’s peanut butter cups, pretzel M&Ms.

20. Any particular candy you ate as a kid?
Anything that wasn’t chocolate: Skittles, fun dips, nerds, sour patch kids, gummy bears.

21. Sexiest part on a man's body is.....
Eyes and arms.

22. What is your favorite thing that is green?

23. What did your last text message say?
“Sounds good, see you then”

24. What is your middle name?

25. What do you smell like?
Gap Original perfume

26. What is the way to your heart?
Going out of your way for me, making me laugh, making me feel special
27. What is the last movie you saw in the theatre?

28. What words do you use when people pass gas?
What kind of question is this? The only person who I hear pass gas is the husband. So I say “Honey!!!!” or “Yuck!!!” or “Gross!!!”

29. Name a song you know all the words to:
I’m on a Boat
The Way You Look Tonight
American Honey

30. What your favorite childhood show?
Too many to count! Clarissa Explains it All, Hey Dude, Full House, Family Matters

Picture-less Monday

August 23, 2010

Good morning everyone! I took zero pictures this weekend. I hate posting without pictures so you'll just have to bare with me. On Saturday the husband and I went tubing down a river with friends. I really wanted to bring my camera but the husband was worried it might get ruined. He was probably right. We floated down a river and were all tied together. Just picture me in a big floppy hat and sunglasses floating around in a huge tube. Priceless. The trip was almost 5 hours, so needless to say afterwards we were exhausted. The husband went to bed (maybe the fact that we drank for almost 5 hours had something to do with that) and I watched The Last Song. So not as good as the book (by Nicholas Sparks), but somehow I still managed to cry!

I also finished reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Go get this book right now. You'll thank me later. It was so amazing! I usually get my books from the library, however, when I went to reserve the second book in the series, Catching Fire, there were 50 holds on it. Dang! So I broke down and ordered it and the third book, Mockingjay which comes out tomorrow, off of Amazon. I hope they arrive soon! I'm obsessed and need to know what happens next!

On Sunday the husband and I went to Costco. I heart Costco. Then I made some ridiculously yummy homemade macaroni and cheese, did some laundry, and then we watched the move Kick Ass...which was surprisingly funny and stupid at the same time

I hope your weekend was great!

30 Minutes or Less

August 19, 2010

As I mentioned on Tuesday, they are filming a movie right outside of my office this week. The movie is 30 Minutes or Less and is produced by Ben Stiller. It's about two guys who kidnap a pizza delivery driver, strap a bomb to him, and force him to rob a bank in 30 minutes or less. Believe it or not it's a comedy. On Tuesday most of the scenes were car crashes, so we only got to see body doubles. However, on Wednesday the actors showed up!

First we saw comedian Aziz Ansari from NBC's Parks and Recreation.

And then we saw Jesse Eisenberg from Zombieland and Adventureland. I haven't seen either movies but I recognized him. He plays the pizza guy and is so young looking! And skinny.

I took a few shots with my iphone from my office window of the action. They're not the best pictures, but you get the idea.

Car crash scene.

Car being flipped.

Rehearsal with Jesse Eisenberg and Aziz Ansari.

Actual scene take number 1.

Take number who knows. They did this scene all day long. We totally got bored watching it.

Anyway, the movie comes out in August 2011 and we all have plans to go see it together. Hopefully it's funny!

Random Thoughts on a Tuesday

August 17, 2010

Happy Tuesday everyone! I took Monday off of work to have a day to myself and it was wonderful. So hard to come back to work today. I'm sort of scattered today so let's do this update in list form.

1. They are shooting a movie right outside my office window! So basically my co-workers and I have not gotten much done today...we're too busy celebrity spotting! Hopefully I'll get some good pictures to post here since they are filming all week.

2. My mom sent me this beautiful necklace in the mail yesterday.

I totally whined to her about wanting an Anthropologie necklace that the Pioneer Woman wore on the Today Show. So, being the most awesome mom that she is, she went to Anthropologie to look for it...and then e-mailed me saying that it was not cute at all in person. I trust her judgment...but was so surprised to find this way cuter necklace in the mail. I love it way more than the Pioneer Woman one. Thanks mom! (I'm wearing it today!)

2. The husband was in a golf tournament on Saturday. He brought this home this little gem:

August Random '10_8278

3. I recovered one of my kitchen chairs in burlap the other day.
August Random '10_8284

Not sure how I feel about it. The chair needs to be painted a brighter white...and then I was thinking of painting something on the burlap seat. Maybe a number, or "R" for our last name. Thoughts?

4.  Yesterday I was supposed to sleep in but instead was woken up by vomit noise coming from Wrigley. Here is the culprit:

Happy Tuesday!

Love it . . . Keep it: Cake Plates

August 12, 2010

I have a major obsession with cake plates. I get it from my mom. I currently have about 9 in my collection but feel the need to add more.
This one was a wedding gift from an old friend and is one of my favorites. I love the simple red detail. It's from Crate and Barrel.

I'm currently lusting over these from Elizabeth's Embellishments. So adorable stacked together.

And I really want one of these from Martha Stewart for Macy's. Might have to squeeze a shopping trip into my weekend. I just love the square shape.

And I've been wanting this one from Crate and Barrel for forever. So simple and classic.

What are you loving and keeping this week?

What I've been reading

August 10, 2010

It seems like I've been reading a ton of books lately! I absolutely love to read, especially during my lunch hour at work or right before bed.

My friend Ali lent me the first three books of Nora Robert's Bride Quartet series. And I love them! They are about a group of four friends who plan weddings together. Mac is a feisty photographer, Emma a sweet and kind florist, Laurel a cake designer, and Parker the events coordinator. These books just fuel my desire to be a wedding planner even more. The forth book, Happy Ever After, comes out in November and I can't wait!

I've also been reading P.C. Cast's Goddess of Partholon series. I was lucky enough to receive the UK covers of these books. So far I've only finished the first two but will start the third asap. These books are pure fantasy...and are about a woman who magically gets transported to another world where everyone thinks she is the chosen one by their goddess. Um, sounds like a good life to me!

I also finally finished the newest Sookie Stackhouse book, Dead in the Family, by Charlaine Harris. Did anyone else find this book boring? I was really looking forward to it but I feel like nothing happened and it was just a filler book. Big disappointment. I think books 2-7 were my favorites (this one is book 10).

Up next on my reading list is the highly recommended The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I can't wait to read this one!

And after that I plan to read Emily Giffin's Heart of the Matter. I know there were a lot of split reviews on this book but I've loved all of her other stuff, so we'll see how it goes.

Any good book recommendations? I would love to hear about what you've been reading!

Oh baby!

August 9, 2010

This weekend we were babies! And I loved every minute of it. As for the husband I'm not so sure.....he was definitely glad we don't have a baby...yet. He was a good sport and held two babies on Friday night! We were invited over to our friends Ron and Sara's house for a BBQ. They have a cute little baby boy, R.

August '10_8251
Here is the husband holding baby R, who happens to be the youngest baby he's ever held. Seeing your husband with a baby just makes your heart melt.

August '10_8255
Look at that cute little face! He looks so much like his daddy.

August '10_8256
Me with baby S. Her parents, Chris and Jamie, came over too. Somehow I didn't manage any pictures of the adults. I must have baby on the brain.

August '10_8260
Little R taking a nap. Love his little arms up over his head.

August '10_8262
S entertained us on this jumper during dinner. She had a blast.

August '10_8271
Both babies ready for bed. They didn't seem to really be in to each other.....maybe some day!

Then on Saturday my friend Kate brought her little baby girl, D, by the house. Why didn't I take any pictures Kate???? The husband was suspicious of me since we have three friends with little babies and we happened to see all three of them over the weekend. He thinks I'm planning something. I can neither confirm, nor deny! (but no, we don't have a baby on the way).

Kate and I went to the farmer's market where I picked up some corn on the cob and peaches. Both were delicious....seriously the best corn we've ever had! I made peach cobbler and it was to die for....totally didn't last long enough for me to even snap a picture!

How was your weekend?

Love it. . . Keep it: Ikea food storage

August 5, 2010

I love organizing. And I love tupperware. My mom knows this about me so she picked me up a set of Ikea's Pruta storage containers. Love them. This is a set of seventeen and was only $4.99! Can you believe it? I heart Ikea....And I wish there was one closer to me. Anyway, the husband and I have been using these containers like crazy. The small ones are the perfect size for salad dressing, chopped up veggies, crackers, and fruit for our lunches. I'm obsessed.

What are you loving this week?

I'm on a boat

August 2, 2010

On Saturday evening were lucky enough to be invited to our friend Geori's lake cottage to hang out on her family's boat and explore the lake. Of course I asked if we could take Wrigley along too. He loves the water so much I couldn't even think about going without him! On the way out to the lake the husband thought it would be a good idea to get Wrigley a dog life jacket because we were worried he would jump off the boat while it was moving. He tends to get a little over excited about water and I didn't want to lose him!

Wrigley Boat_7966
Doesn't he look cute? He was a little scared at first but soon started to love it. We've decided we definitely did not need the life jacket (good thing I kept the tags on it!). Wrigley was so good and stayed in his seat the entire time.

Wrigley Boat_7970
He loved having the wind in his hair and watching the water splash.

Wrigley Boat_7971
After the boat ride Wrigley kept walking over to the edge of water and we could tell he wanted to swim. So the husband jumped on in.

Wrigley Boat_7982
Wrigley soon followed and had a blast. He could swim for hours.

Thanks Geori for a fun night! I think Wrigley had his best day ever.
