Moving Day

Well, today is the day. Moving day. Didn't we just do this? I have moved every year for the past 7 years...isn't that crazy? It is nice to know that this time, we will finally be home for good. So, I've been trying to pack up all of our stuff. It is way harder than the last time I moved because now, not only to I have the husband's stuff to pack but also have wedding gifts. It is crazy how much stuff we have...especially glassware that can be broken! I'm going crazy over here. Of course the boys are helping wherever they can.

Pancake...attacking the plastic wrap...as usual.

Henry making sure we didn't leave anything behind.

Pancake in a box...he didn't want me to forget to bring him too.

More box inspections.

Henry making sure the boxes were packed correctly.

Our Remodeling Party

Okay, I'm back. Did you miss me? The past few days have been exhausting, to say the least. We spent Friday-Monday working on the house all day. We would get up, go to the house, work all day, make several trips to lowes and home depot (they started recognizing me!) and then come back to the condo and go to bed. We are so tired! But, we got a ton done! We had my in-laws, Jon and Connie, and sister-in-law Erin, over on Saturday to help out with painting. Here is what we did: painted the living room, family room, and master bedroom. We primed the kitchen but did not get it painted (mostly because we were so sick of painting, but also because I couldn't decide on a color). Danny came over on Sunday and Monday to help the husband replace the locks on both of the doors, pull up the carpet in the living room and family room, and remove the built-in shelf in the laundry room (the shelf was at a bad height so it had to go...apparently it was really in there because by the time they got it down it looked like a wolverine had slashed up the walls!).

Here is the living room. We painted it a light green. The carpet was beyond repair so we had to order new carpet and the boys took out the old stuff. It is still sitting in our garage.

Here is the family room. We painted the accent wall "toffee crunch" and the side walls "gobi desert"....yeah, I got really familiar with the paint colors at home depot. All of that molding was such a pain to paint! The carpet was also removed from this room.

Here are the carpet guys installing the new carpet. It looks great!

I chatted it up with them and learned all about the carpet instillation process. They also were able to touch up a few spots upstairs where the previous owner's dog scratched and tor the carpet. We had the upstairs carpet professionally cleaned but they were unable to do the downstairs because it was in such bad shape! I have no idea how people could ruin carpet in 6 years...but I'm so glad we have clean new stuff!

We also had the plumber come to install a new faucet and fix the leaky sink. Oh, did I mention that all of these people were over at the same time?!?! It was like a big remodeling party. The plumber also installed our new stove and dryer.

Here is the guy from lowes installing our refrigerator. He took one look at me and said "weren't you in the store this morning?".....sadly, I was...and ended up going back two more times that day!

Here is the stove...man, our kitchen was a mess!

My man putting on gloves...they were a little tight.

Danny patching up the wolverine walls in the laundry room.

Me programming the garage door openers...I did it all by myself! I also replaced all of the toilet seats...didn't think you would want to see a picture of that though.

We got so much done, but still have a lot to do! We are planning on moving in this weekend. We have some friends who are going to help us out....wish us luck!

Cleaning Day

As I mentioned before, we spent Valentine's Day cleaning our new house. It took all day Saturday and a good part of the day Sunday. And let me just say this: it is NO fun cleaning 3 bathrooms, let alone cleaning 3 bathrooms worth of dirt and grime that was not created by you....gross. Oh, and there was dog hair everywhere! Jeez, I don't know how the previous owners could stand it. But, after all of our hard work the house is finally clean!

My husband cleaning away...any ideas of how can I get him to keep doing this once we move in?

My mother-in-law, Connie, and sister-in-law, Erin. I have the best family in the entire world, don't you think?

Our expert cleaner, my father-in-law, Jon.

My mom wanted to see the back yard. So of course the day I go to take pictures of it is the day we get snow dumped on us. This is the deck...obviously.

View to the left.

View to the right. Isn't it weird how no one has a fence? I think it is so strange. In California everyone has a fence! About 80% of the houses we looked at didn't have fences....it must be a weird Michigan thing.

Second Floor Tour

So do you want to see the second floor? Come on up!

The stairs are really wide...which I guess will be a good thing when we are moving in.

At the top of the stairs is the second bathroom.

To the left of the bathroom is the 4th bedroom. It will be our guest room.

This is the of the hall....it is to the right of the stairs. The master bedroom is on the left and two other bedrooms are on the right. That skinny door is a linen closet.

This is the 3rd bedroom. All of the bedrooms have great big closets.

This is the 2nd bedroom, it is the smallest, I think.

kAnd this is the master bedroom view from the doorway.

View from the window.

Master closet...I love it!

Master bathroom.

So, what do you think?

It's Official

It's official...we are homeowners! Jon and I signed all of the paperwork today! It was like signing our life away. But we are so excited to start this part of our lives. After all of the paperwork was done we went over to the house to take some "before" pictures. Want to go on a tour of the first floor? Here we go.Our house!

View from the front door. If you walk straight you will pass a coat closet, a half bathroom, and then end up in the laundry room. If you go right you will be in the living room.

Staircase to the left.

Half bathroom down the hall to the right.

Living room to the right. The windows here look out to the front yard. Where the light is glowing on the right is where the front door is. Make sense?

Dining area off of the living room.

View of the kitchen from the dining area.

This is the mud room area and laundry room off of the kitchen. This area is also straight across from the front door. That bench opens for storage...it is one of my favorite parts of the house!

Family room off of the kitchen/hallway.

View of the kitchen from the family room. To the right is the garage and also the door to the basement.

So that was the first floor. Was it confusing? Are you completely turned around? I hope not. I can't wait to share some more pics soon. We will be cleaning all day Saturday...wish us luck!

Candy Hearts

I could eat these every day. Jon thinks they are gross. I especially love the ones with cheesy sayings like "EZ 2 LOVE" "BE MY HERO" and my personal favorite, "URA TIGER". I love Valentine's day candy...don't you? I also love Easter candy....especially peeps....the yellow chicks to be exact. In case you wanted to send some candy my way...now you know.

Appliance Shopping

Yesterday Jon and I went appliance shopping...for like the 10th time. Seriously, they started recognizing us! Jon had lists and lists of appliances, ratings, prices etc. so we could get the best deal. We shopped around all day and ended up getting a crazy good deal at Lowe's. So we are excited! We now have a new refrigerator, stove, microwave, washer, and dryer. Oh, and did you know that Samsung makes refrigerators? Apparently they are rated extremely well...so that is what we got! I expected it to have a tv in the door or something cool like that...but it didn't.

Everything is set to be delivered in two weeks! We are officially closing on the house this week! The plan is to clean the house on Saturday (won't that be a fun Valentine's day activity? very romantic) and then start planning what colors we are going to paint the walls and pick out new carpet. Hopefully we will be moved in by the end of February/beginning of March!

Monkeying Around

It has been really cold here lately. I think the high for today was 13 degrees. Needless to say, the boys are experiencing a little cabin fever.

Something must have been hiding in the couch.

Pancake is always willing to lend a paw.

February 2, 2009

This weekend we had the chance to catch up with some good friends over drinks. Moving to Michigan was hard for me because I had to leave all of my friends behind in California. However, I was lucky enough to marry a man who has amazing friends that have welcomed me in to their group with open arms. We are grateful for each of them.

We did some (well maybe a lot) of this.

The husband with friends Geori, Shaun, and Ron. Thanks for a great time guys!
