Cake Tasting
First off, I want to say thank you to my 7 readers out there. Even though I forced you to leave me a comment, I still loved each of them! So thanks! And now, a little about our cake tasting day! Yesterday Jon and I met with a cake decorator named Katie to discuss our wedding cake. It was so fun! Katie was so kind and seemed very excited about my design. I think she will do a wonderful job. She is young and works from her home...but she does really cute cakes. Jon told me that this was his favorite wedding planning activity so far. Why you ask? Because we got to taste all the cake! Katie had samples of each cake flavor, frosting, and filling. I wish I had my camera to take a picture...it was so cute and organized. We had fun trying different combinations. I think what we picked out will turn out really yummy! After our meeting was over, Katie left us the sample platter...so of course Jon and I ate every single piece. One more thing to cross off my checklist!

Below I have given you plenty of pictures to comment on. Go ahead and comment away...your comments make my day!
First, a little baby Pancake with a snow globe...look how tiny he is!
The next TSA baggage checker.
Me and my soon-to-be-husband...with a large cookie with our names on it....I forced him to do this with me...
This is a picture of me on the night I first met my soon-to-be-husband. Who can resist a redheaded cowgirl? (Note to said soon-to-be-husband: maybe you should comment on your soon-to-be-wife's blog once in a while).
This is me with e, my maid of honor. First of all, who took this horrible picture? Second, e, why are you trying to stab me with a frosting covered butter knife? Did you think I wouldn't find this picture? I thought we were friends. I mean, I did ask you to be my maid of honor and all, and this is how you re-pay me? Third, what made us actually think that we could make and decorate cookies for wedding favors? Big mistake.
And lastly, yes this is a baby cake in the panty drawer. What can I say? No, I am not proud of this. Yes, I am a little embarrassed. But I'm just keeping it real here.

Earthquakes in Michigan???
Wait, WHAT? Yes, you heard me correctly...we had an earthquake in Michigan this morning at 5:30 a.m.!!! Get out! I thought when I left California that I wouldn't have to deal with the shake rattle and roll...guess I was wrong. The earthquake was actually in Illinois, but people could feel it all the way out here in the mitten state. I, however, did not feel the earth move. I learned a long time ago how to just sleep through the things...no big deal in California...we shake all the time man! I vividly remember one earthquake when I was in high school. It was sometime during the night and I woke up to my whole bed shaking. And what did I do? Did I get under a table and cover my head? No. Did I run to the doorway for protection? No. I, set in my silly California-girl ways, just stayed in my cozy bed and enjoyed the ride. Once it was over, my mom called out to me "are you okay?" I said, "yeah" and then fell back asleep. That's how we do it in California. That is NOT how things go down here in Michigan, let me tell ya. It was all over the news this morning...it was a BIG story! I went on to the Grand Rapids T.V. news page today and they have a section where they post viewer emails. Some of them just crack me up. Here are a few that made me laugh:
"I felt the earthquake this morning. My dog was standing at the foot of my bed starring at me strangely and our bed was vibrating. I just thought it was my husband snoring." (Ha! I love it!)
"I was woke up because my bed was shaking and I thought it was the cat jumping up on the bed, but there was no cat then I just thought maybe I was dreaming." (ya, my cats can shake the bed like that too...and I love how she says "I was woke up"...can you say hick?)
"I was sleeping and my dresser handles started clanging and my bed was moving and I thought what in the world is going on, it's like a scene out of the Exorcist movie or something. Then it quit." (ya, because it was that strong...Pul-lease! Move to California, then you can feel a real earthquake!)
"Here in Rockford our cats totally freaked out. The 20 pound cat Minette woke my hubby up when she leaped up onto his lap at 5:30 am and another one of the cats was running around the house and just leaping up off the walls about 5 feet high. The others are all ‘on alert'. Me, I slept right through it." (This is my favorite email. Ha! First, she has a 20 pound cat?!?! Talk about a wake up call. Maybe she is related to Pancake? Plus, the cats were leaping up off the walls? What? Is this spider-cat or something? Oh, and then "the others" were on alert...how many cats do they have? Talk about crazy cat lady...)
"I was watching "Lucy" this morning when all of a sudden my sofa began shaking (with me on it!), my glasses in the sink were rattling, and my wind chimes were banging on the side of the house. I thought my house was falling apart, I ran outside to get my cat, apparently earthquakes don't affect cats she was just sitting in the yard sniffing the air. Way too early to rock and roll for me." (Your cat is worthless...she can't even leap off the walls.)
See what I mean? Michigan people are total freaks about earthquakes.

Sunny Day
Henry always jumps up on the railing...I'm a little nervous he will fall, but he seems to do just fine up there and he really enjoys it...so I let him stay...I'm a sucker for that sweet little face.April 14, 2008

My Nalgene is Killing Me
I've heard of this before, but this morning it was confirmed by the Today Show....so it must be true right? Apparently the plastic in my Nalgene water bottles is toxic, and can lead to fertility problems. Now let me set the record straight: I am not looking to have a baby any time soon, but I do want to protect my fertility for future use ya know? Any plastic container with the number 3, 6, or 7 in the recycle triangle at the bottom is toxic and should not be used. #7, according to Matt Lauer, is the most dangerous one...and all three of my Nalgenes were #7...go figure. I usually take a Nalgene to work every day...so I've totally been poisoned....great.
So goodbye blue/purple Nalgene that I bought in West Virginia. I sure loved you and your Snowshoe sticker.
Goodbye green knock-off version of Nalgene given to me by MSU...I did not love you, I am not sad over you. I never really used you, so you didn't have a chance to poison me...no hard feelings.
Also toxic #7 was my boy's cat food container. I'm not too worried about it...they don't need to worry about their fertility.Non-toxic plastic found in my apartment: shampoo bottle, salad dressing and ketchup containers, Brita water filter, yogurt cup, Pounce cat treat container, and throw-away water bottles....good good.

Not Julie?
I was recently looking for a new place to get my hair cut and came across something that even I have never thought of, serving beer.

That's right there is a barbershop in our area that serves a complimentary beer with every haircut...
Yes Virginia there is a Santa Clause!

Unfortunelty before I could go in for my first appointment the barbershop was informed by the Attorney General that they are no longer allowed to serve the complimentary beer.

The barbershop is fighting the ruling as the complimentary beer is something that has been a long time tradition in barbershops. There is even a specific clause in their insurance that provides coverage.
So it looks like I am going to have to wait but looking forward to my haircut and beer I am!

My Half Day Off
Ya know how last week I did some redecorating? Well, something about the picture I hung above my bed was just not quite right....so I went back to gold ol' Hobby Lobby and bought this shelf (50% off!)....which is a larger version of the one I put up in the bathroom. Anyway, I like the way it looks above my bed soooo much better. (I bet you like it better too, mom).
Oh, I forgot to mention that I also did a little shopping....and bought this bag.I sure love me a big red bag...especially when it is 65% off!
